A case in point: Nigeria indicting former US vice president Dick Cheney and former company to court for corrupting government officials.
Because they know that Africa is immensely rich in people, potential and recourses they are doing our best to corrupt our learders which is totally unfair.
For instance, Ghana in 2008 produced about 89 tons of gold.At the current price of gold, there should be substantial revenue from gold. But no. Ghana only gets about 3% of the profit. How would you call this? My answer will merely be a TRAVESTY OF FAIR TRADE this is not the only case we have.
I think as an African citizen that it is high time that we put an end to this because we have all we need for a brighter future God willing:
First of all, we must have a self love we have so much self hate which manifests itself through leaders who do not want to relinquish power (think about Ivory Coast), civil wars , corruption and all the other bad stuffs.
We need to love ourselves. What the world needs now is a creed of selfless leaders, who would look beyond personal gains and with a straightforwardness work for making this world a better place to be. Remember Michael Jackson’s words.

Hey djibril, after reading your blog i think I would have to disagree with you on this one. I don't think former imperial powers are trying to corrupt our government officials. I think these government officials are already corrupt and what these western imperialists are doing is just taking advantage of the situation in these countries since they known they would easily get away with it. I grew up in Nigeria and have seen election aspirants kill out their opponents, this is because they know what they are to gain if they get elected. the former colonists and the government officials are all corrupt.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your interest.
ReplyDeletePerhaps our government officials are already corrupt but what I am trying to say is that the source of that corruption dates back the colonialism when they came in Africa in order to get us"civilized", and by "civilization" they taught us CORRUPTION AND HOW IT WORKS. I'm not saying that we should blame them but just to highlight things. you mentionned that "(...)aspirants kill out their opponents (...)because they know what they are going to gain if they get elected" but knowing that most of African countries are not that rich so they probably expect financial help from the rich countries and as you might know this is not without saying that those rich countries are expecting something from those who they help because most of the time nothing is free in life.
Now, it is up to us to get rid of those bad precepts and try to figure out how to rebuild our world fairly without blackmail or whatever this vision may be utopian but I do beleive in humanity because "impossible is nothing"
